Basically, it was a long day (over 8 hours), with the worst directions EVER (THANKS A LOT, MAPQUEST). I am also sunburnt and have a headache, and by the end of the day, felt sweaty and dirty and genereally more disgusting than I have in a long time.
HOWEVER. The crew was very friendly, and made absolute sure that everyone stayed well-hydrated and well-fed. The scene was in a carnival in Wisconsin, and since the episode airs in the fall, we had to all dress like it was fall. Everyone was melting in the heat, needless to say. Eventually people just went "screw this" and stayed in their tank tops and shorts.
The day was half waiting around, half walking wherever we were told to walk. I mean, it was typical extras work, but pair that with carnival props (me: a ginormous ten of spades/poker chips balloon, Anna: a giant purple stuffed dog and a tub of popcorn), and you have some inconvenient happenings. My balloon hit EVERYONE in the face, and poor Anna was holding a huge furry toy while wearing a hoodie in 30 degree weather.
We did a lot of wide shots, as well as one scene with Jared and one scene with Jensen. They were both dressed in uniforms of the people who pick up garbage at carnivals, and Jared had the garbage bag and grabby hand thing (which he kept using to pick up pebbles and throw them at people, or to grab random crew members' asses XD). In Jared's scene, we were standing right in front of him, and in Jensen's, our designated route took us right past him. I was hoping they would be hideous in real life, but alas, THEY ARE JUST AS TALL AND STRAPPING AND GOOD-LOOKING AS I IMAGINED. Jensen in particular was kind of stunning.
It was also really obvious that Jared is like everyone's ray of sunshine, from his stand-in to the make-up girl to the guy who rounded up all the extras. He's just so friendly and SMILEY. How is Sam so emo??
When the volunteers were finally able to finish, we went back to the tents for food. Then they announced that they would be drawing a winner (from the volunteers) for a TV/DVD player, and that Jared and Jensen would be doing the raffle. So after a while, we all went back out to see.
(pics taken with camera phone, sorry about quality!)
Jared and Jensen's intro.
The prize was a TV/DVD player. (Jensen: "*picking up the box* THERE'S NOTHING IN HERE!!")
They had a little boy draw the winner.
An adorable little girl ended up winning. She sat on the box that the TV came in, and Jared and Jensen knelt down on either side of her to get their picture taken. SO CUTE. (Jared: "Now, this TV only plays Supernatural...")
Of course, after the prize is announced and Jared and Jensen get off the stage to go back to set, EVERYONE starts yelling their name and getting them to sign stuff. They sign like two things, before everyone is told to back off, the actors need to work, maybe they'll sign autographs later, etc. etc.
So we go back to the tents to pack up our things, and everyone is given autographed 8x10 glossies of Sam and Dean. Blah blah blah it was a good day, thanks for coming out, you can stay if you'd like, they're still shooting and will need more people, etc. etc. etc. At this point, Jared walks into the tent to thank all the volunteers. And wow. wow. He was just...so NICE and so gracious and friendly to everyone, and these ladies in their 60s told him that he made them cry in the season finale, and he told us that he had to go back and get his black eye re-applied because his dogs licked all his make-up off, and and and.
